Gula Java - Diagrams

Included are 'process flow sheets' for the eight mills covered in detail, based on information provided by the mills themselves. Inevitably I have had to simplify them to make them accessible to non sugar technologists.

I have used the following (unofficial) colour code for clarity:

Magenta - cane/bagasse

Red - main juice route to final sugar

Blue - other inputs

Green - waste and recycled materials

Purple - low grade sugar

The following terms require special explanation:

Stroop - Syrup from the first of a pair of centrifugals passed to the next vacuum pan

Klare - Washings from the second of a pair of centrifugals passed back to a vacuum pan

Leburan - Remelt, the low grade or lumpy sugar recycled.
